Kona buy one get one free sale Process MTB

It appears that 2023 is the year of the bike BOGO. That’s buy-one-get-one-free, a term that’s normally not associated with the purchase of a complete bicycle. Then again, this hasn’t been a normal year for sales. As a result of many bike industry brands carrying far too much inventory into the new year, we’re seeing Black Friday deals that started well before Black Friday transition into fire sales as bike brands try to move aging products.

Buy One Get One Free Mountain Bikes?

This isn’t the first BOGO bike deal we’ve seen this year, but in terms of bicycle value, the appropriately named Kona N+1 sale is the craziest yet. Although, maybe this should be named the N+2 sale where N is the number of bikes you currently have since buying a new Kona Process means you’re getting two.

From now until December 31st, 2023, Kona is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on any in-stock Kona Process full-suspension mountain bike. These are killer bikes that have always impressed us with their well-rounded capabilities, style, and legendary North Shore durability.

What Kona Bikes Are On Sale?

The Kona Bike sale is limited to in-stock Process full-suspension models, but there is still a lot to choose from. At the most basic level, you’ll need to choose between the aluminum process models and the higher-end carbon versions. But from there, you have the choice of travel and wheel size – there’s even the Process X DH and a kid’s Process 24 to consider!

That could make this a perfect chance to get yourself a new mountain bike while getting a legit full-suspension mountain bike for your child, for free. Or, team up with one of your riding buddies and split the cost. Or just get two new bikes for yourself!

Currently In Stock:

  • Process 24
  • Process 153 29
  • Process 153 27.5
  • Process 134 DL 29
  • Process 134 DL 27.5

Mondraker’s new Kids MTB lineup includes 2 full-suspension platforms and hardtails in 4 wheelsizes to kit out the next generation of mountain bikers on inspirational rides. The progressive Spanish mountain bike maker wants families to ride together, and keep riding together. So, Mondraker put together a comprehensive Kids mountain bike range that goes from starter bikes with 16″ wheels all the way up to 26″ full-suspension trail bikes you’d be hard-pressed to pick-out from their modern adult mountain bikes.

On top of that, Mondraker sneaks in two Play-series hardtail or full-suspension lightweight ebikes to give young riders the little extra boost they need to join fit parents for longer rides.

Mondraker says they take kids bikes “very seriously”. So, they aimed to give kids adult-level performance and all their latest tech advancements. Bikes that look, feel & ride just like their adult bikes out on the trail with the fam.

The latest evolution of their Zero Suspension setup and progressive Forward Geometry. Proper 2.4″ tires and dropper post compatibility across the range. Plus, the literal same materials with which they build their popular alloy Foxy and Raze mountain bikes for adults.

And topping it all off, suspension with lighter kid-specific shock tunes and build kits that focus on performance & lightweight, at pricepoints that shouldn’t break your parent’s bank.

Trick hardtails with 16”, 20”, 24”, or 26” wheels

2024 Mondraker Trick 16

Your first mountain bike probably was and your kid’s first mountain bike probably should be a hardtail. The new Mondraker Trick is a no-nonsense mountain bike for all ages with options for 16”, 20”, 24”, or 26” wheels. For such a simple bike, it’s a big step up from their old Leader. And looks a lot more like a proper modern Mondraker adult hardtail.

All are built with light Alloy Stealth Evo 6061 aluminum. And get proper modern details like sensible internal cable routing, 12x142mm hub spacing, and a UDH mech hanger. (The 16″ is a single-speed with horizontal track ends dropouts.) And proper 2.4″ tires, even if they aren’t tubeless ready out of the box.

Each comes in one frame size per wheelsize.

The Trick 16 sells for $750 / 600€. Trick 20 for $950 / 750€. The Trick 24 for $1550 / 1200€. And Trick 26 for $1750 / 1400€.

F-Trick full-suspension trail bikes with 24” or 26” wheels

2024 Mondraker Kids all-new progressive youth mountain bikes, riding downhill

At the top level Mondraker has scaled-down their 6061 alloy 130mm Raze trail bike to build a full-suspension mountain bike to give kids proper adult level performance. First, off the list, the all-new F-Trick gets Forward Geometry tweaked for smaller riders. Then, the same recently updated Zero Suspension System with more progressive kinematics as the XC F-Podium & all-mountain Neat. That update alone brings improved initial small bump sensitivity and better compliance out on the trail in a lighter, more compact system with less unsprung weight.

And it adds more travel than ever for a Mondraker Kids full-suspension bike. With 24″ wheels kids get 120mm of travel front & rear. Or on 26″ wheels that scales up to 130mm of rear wheel travel paired to a 140mm fork.

In the details, both bikes get proper Boost 12x148mm thru-axles, a UDH, a BSA BB, short 30mm stems, powerful disc brakes (2-piston for the 24″ & 4-piston for the 26″), and dropper posts.

Again each comes in one frame size per wheelsize. The F-Trick 24 sells for $2600 / 2300€. And the F-Trick 26 for $2800 / 2500€.

Mondraker Kids eBikes too!

Matching up each of the two regular kids mountain bike lines are a couple of matching Play-series light ebike variants. These are developed to offer just a little bit of support to extend how far your kids can ride and how much cumulative climbing they can do in a ride with a bit of pedal assist. The Play & F-Play both feature Mahle’s lightweight 40Nm ebikemotion X35 hub motor out back and small 250Wh batteries tucked inside their alloy downtubes. Plus, the option for a 210Wh range extender exclusively on the 26″ hardtail & 26″ full-suspension ebikes.

The intention was more to create a light & smooth pedal-assist that retained a natural ride feel for young mountain bikers. But it also resulted in the Play & F-Play being almost indiscernible from the Trick & F-Trick unless you look really close.

Play ebike hardtails with 20”, 24”, or 26” wheels

2024 Mondraker Kids all-new Mahle X35 lightweight mountain ebikes, Play 20
2024 Mondraker Play 20 ebike

Just like the Trick, the Play ebike comes in lots of wheelsizes to fit many young riders. Pretty much the only difference for the ebike hardtails is a slightly larger downtube that drops a bit steeper to finish in front of the threaded BB shell, with a built-in molded rubber bashguard over the battery access. The result is a good low weight and balance front to rear.

2024 Mondraker Kids all-new Mahle X35 lightweight mountain ebikes, Play 24

Again, light Alloy Stealth Evo 6061 aluminum frames & Forward Geometry. Proper 2.4″ tires, internal cables & dropper compatibility. But classic QR dropouts to work with the 9mm bolt-on axle of the X35 hub motor. (The 20″ model gets reduced power and a reduced top speed to keep smaller riders safely in check.)

2024 Mondraker Kids all-new Mahle X35 lightweight mountain ebikes, Play 26
2024 Mondraker Play 26 ebike

Each again comes in one frame size per wheelsize. The Play 20 sells for $3000 / 2400€. Play 24 for $3200 / 2800€. And the Play 26 for $3400 / 2900€.

F-Play full-suspension trail ebikes with 24” or 26” wheels

Then at the top of the Mondraker Kids ebike family is the full-suspension F-Play.

They say, “If you want your little-ones to get better at mountain biking you’ll need a [e]bike that helps them do just that. That’s why we’ve completely redesigned our F-Play range, making them unarguably the best two-wheeled investment ever when it comes to smiles per mile. We’ve gone all-in, leveraging adult-[e]bike tech to design the best kids [e]bikes out there.

2024 Mondraker Kids all-new Mahle X35 lightweight mountain ebikes, F-Play 24

It’s pretty much exactly like the hardtail solution, carbon copy the F-Trick but give it a Mahle X35 motor and a 250Wh battery inside a forward downtube to create the F-Play. It’s the same 24″ wheels with 120/120mm travel or 26″ wheels with 140/130mm travel front & rear. Lightweight, light and natural pedal assist, plus the latest kinematics upgrades and modern Forward Geometry.

The 6061 alloy F-Play ebike also comes in one frame size per wheelsize. The F-Play 24 sells for $3700 / 3300€. And the F-Play 26 for $4000 / 3500€.

According to Mondraker, “The time has come for your whole family to form a part of the Mondraker family.”

Marin Bikes Coast Trail hero

Just in time for the holidays, Petaluma, California’s own Marin Mountain Bikes Inc. has released a new bike line just for the lil’ cyclists on your list. We all know, there’s nothin’ better for most kids during the holidays than getting a new bike. And the new Coast Trail line of bikes gives you plenty to choose from.

The new Coast Trail line offers bikes in three different ranges from bikes with 16″ wheels, up to bikes with 20″ and 24″ wheels.

Bike weight is a pretty important factor for smaller riders so the Coast Trail models feature lightweight aluminum frames, forks, handlebars stems, cranks, and rims. These features run through the whole model range.

A lighter bike is easier to ride and control, which, in turn, instills confidence in the rider. The frames on all of the models are designed with generous standover clearance, letting the little tikes easily straddle their bicycles.

Marin Bikes Coast Trail intigrated cable housing

Just like the “grown-up” bikes, the entire line of Coast Trail bikes uses internal cable routing, adding to the already clean aesthetic of the line. Plus, on the 20″ and 24″ frames there are downtube bosses for bottle cages.

Not Just Smaller Wheels and Lightweight Frames

Marin’s Product Development Team worked closely with the Marin employees who are parents to ensure that the Coast Trail models had kid-proportioned touch points.

On the Coast Trail line, you’ll find components designed specifically around kids’ smaller statures. For example, smaller saddles, narrower diameter grips, and pedals with smaller platforms.

The line also includes special short-reach brake levers that will pull simple, proven liner-pull brakes for safe and reliable stopping. The special Marin/VEE Tire Speedster balances smooth and easy rolling with an inverted tread down the center.

The Speedster tires also have low-profile side and shoulder knobs that can provide additional traction when your lil’ shralper wants to venture off of the sidewalk or hit the neighborhood paths and trails.

Prevelo’s new Bravo Series brings full-featured dirt jump and pump track bikes to the youngest riders. Available in three sizes – 16, 20, and 24 inch – they’re sized for kids that haven’t grown into a 26″ wheeled DJ bike yet.

The frames are lightweight aluminum and get air suspension forks with adjustable compression & rebound settings, even on the 16″ model. That helps take them beyond pump tracks into proper jump lines, where the launches get bigger and a little cushion helps as they learn to time landings.

Wheels have Novatec hubs with WTB rims and Kenda Booster 2.2″ tires, and drivetrains are singlespeed with 28-tooth narrow-wide chainrings. All models have a Tektro hydraulic disc rear brake.

2023 Vitus Mythique Kids affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bikes with 24" or 26" wheels, riding smiles

Bikemaker Vitus has scaled down their popular Mythique trail all-mountain bike into a new Kids’ version for the next generation of mountain bikers to hone their off-road skills. With 120mm of travel, capable slack geometry, modern drivetrains, all the latest standards, and the option of 24″ or 26″ wheels, young riders will be shredding trails and parents will be struggling to keep up on these new mini Mythiques.

Vitus Kids Mythique affordable 24″ & 26″ alloy mountain bikes

All mountain bikers want their kids to ride good bikes. But department store bikes aren’t up to real trail riding. Even proper good quality hardtails aren’t really as fun as you’d hope. (Would you give up your modern carbon trail bike, and go back to an entry-level aluminum hardtail now that your tasted full-suspension riding?) And bikes are so expensive, that it’s hard to justify the outlay of cash when the kids are still growing like weeds.

Enter a Vitus Mythique for Kids!

Vitus Mythique Kids 24" affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bike, angled
(Photos/Vitus)

The new Vitus Mythique Kids is directly based on the popular and successful aluminum version of the 2023 Vitus Mythique that was just updated this past winter (and which in its previous generation earned mentions in both my 2019 & 2020 Editor’s Choice for its ride & affordability). Vitus wanted a bike that was “just as capable and confidence-inspiring as its adult-sized namesake”.

How’d they do it?

Vitus Mythique Kids 26" affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bike, angle detail

To achieve that, Vitus scaled the regular aluminum bike back. So, dropped just 10mm off the rear wheel travel and downsizing wheels to fit smaller riders. “We essentially started with the alloy frame of the adult-size Mythique and shrunk it down to be suitable for a smaller human, meaning your budding shredder can expect the same poise, playfulness, and durability that’s made the Mythique one of the most popular bikes in our lineup.”

2023 Vitus Mythique Kids affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bikes with 24" or 26" wheels, rear shock detail

The resulting bikes get 120mm of rear wheel travel (down from the adults’ 130mm), paired to a 130mm fork on the 16″ bike or 120mm fork on the 14″ bike for even lower standover.

Vitus Mythique Kids 26-inch affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bike_ Vitus Mythique Kids 24-inch affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bike_

Both still keep quite progressive geometry, too. A 66° head angle on the bigger bike, with a 75.5° effective seattube on both. The fit is designed for smaller riders, from 127-158cm / 4’1″-5’1″ tall.

Tech details

2023 Vitus Mythique Kids affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bikes with 24" or 26" wheels, protectors

The Kids’ Mythique is a 6061-T6 alloy bike with the same horst-link 4-bar suspension design as the adults’ version. It also keeps the same modern standards, pretty surprising for a kids’ bike, actually. You get a standard Universal Derailleur Hanger. Tapered headtubes. Plus, Boost spacing, proper thru-axles, and molded downtube, chainstay & seatstay protectors.

2023 Vitus Mythique Kids affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bikes with 24" or 26" wheels, non-driveside frameset detail

Unfortunately, Vitus doesn’t build the bikes with dropper posts. But there is internal routing for a 31.6mm dropper when it’s time to upgrade your kid.

2023 Vitus Mythique Kids affordable alloy 120mm full-suspension youth trail mountain bikes with 24" or 26" wheels, BOX Four 1x 8-speed drivetrain

There’s just one complete bike build of each. To that end, they get similar spec built around a wide Box Four 1x 8-speed drivetrain, 160mm Clarks Clout hydraulic disc & 30mm internal WTB ST i30 rims with tubeless tape already installed.

Spec-wise, the red 26″ bike gets a 130mm SR Suntour Raidon 34 fork and 2.5″ EXO casing Maxxis Minion tires. While the silver 24″ bike gets a 120mm Manitou J-Unit 34 Expert fork, and Enduro casing 2.4″ Vee Flow Snap tires.

Vitus Mythique Kids – Pricing, options & availability

2023 Vitus Mythique 24

Both bikes sell for the same £1600 / $2000 suggested price. And they come direct from Vitus’ consumer-direct retail partners Chain Reaction and Wiggle. Now, recent industry news suggests that the parent of all of these companies struggling financially and has gone into restructuring. In truth, that might add a little doubt about the long-term availability of service or warranty coverage. But if you are looking to buy this bike you already are going down the consumer-direct path away from brick & mortar bike shops anyway. And on top of that, Vitus was clear that they developed this bike with a focus on durability and serviceability based on their alloy adult Mythiques.

2023 Vitus Mythique 26

What that does also mean is that Vitus and their parent Signa, are looking for cashflow. And with the holiday season right around the corner, they’re calling it an early Black Friday sale. As a result, in the UK there’s currently a 25% discount knocking these kids’ bikes back to £1200. Also, in the US that’s a 33% discount, dropping prices back to $1340. Those sales on a modern new bike make these look like a pretty killer deal for your young shredder.

For children, nothing quite says the holidays like a new bike! Hold on, I’m remembering my new Webco under the tree one year…man, that’s still a magical moment. Well, this holiday season, you can give the gift of a new bike too, by participating in the nationally recognized nonprofit, Can’d Aid’s “Give One, Get One” campaign.

Can'd Aid GoGo Bike all the bikes

The GoGo Campaign

This campaign marks the celebration of their 10th year anniversary and 10,000 bikes donated. For every GoGo purchase of a Can’d Aid 20″ bike, another bike is donated to a child in need.

We believe the best holiday gifts are those that encourage healthy habits and give back to the community,” said Can’d Aid Founder and Executive Director Diana Ralston. “Our GoGo program is a celebration of 10 years of giving and ten thousand bikes given away, and we hope it will be a great way for your family to celebrate the holidays in the true spirit of the season“.

If you have a first or second-grader on the holiday list this year, the Can’d Aid Bike could be the perfect gift for that lil’ tike. The bike is said to be designed to keep your “kid-sized shredder” active and outside while supporting a child who doesn’t have access to resources like a new bike to keep active.

The fact is, regular physical activity, like bike riding, keeps kids healthy and supports confidence, emotional health, and well-being.

Through Can’d Aid’s Treads and Trails program, the organization has built and donated more than 10,000 bicycles to children across the US. Collaborating with REEB Cycles, at bike donation events, kids get to watch a demonstration by professional cyclists, like REEB Cycles rider Jeff Lenosky.

Lenoski is a world-class freeride, and trials mountain bike rider who’s also a longtime Treads and Trails ambassador. “Lenosky stokes kids’ enthusiasm for bike riding with a demonstration of safety, pro bike tricks, and a glimpse into what’s possible on wheels”.

The Can’d Aid Bike Features

The geometry on the Can’d Aid bike is said to be designed “to get learners riding bikes fast”. It comes in Can’d Aid’s signature red, and is both tough and stylish, with BMX-styled tires that are designed to do well on pavement and dirt. The seat and handlebars are fully adjustable for both height and angle, perfect for beginners.

Trek has a new line of simple lightweight alloy kids’ bike called the Wahoo Trail that gives the old Wahoo family a big off-road performance boost. It’s still a rigid aluminum hardtail. But now it gets a lighter carbon fork, much bigger tire clearance, hydraulic disc brakes, a bit more modern MicroShift 1x drivetrain, and internal routing for a dropper post. Like its predecessor, it comes in 24″ wheels, or a smaller 20″ version, too.

Update: Read on for 20″ availability in the US.

Trek’s new lightweight Wahoo Trail 24 kids’ mountain bike

all c. Trek

Officially, the Wahoo family is Trek’s hybrid kids bike, with ‘just big enough’ tires to make it off-road-ready, but sticking with a light and simple rigid frame and fork. Well for 2024, the hybrids lean a bit harder into mountain bikes with the new Wahoo Trail, bumping up to 2.2″ tires – and room for more – plus, what Trek is calling an ‘adult-level’ spec with kid-specific component fits.

So what’s new?

Compared to the old Wahoo, this new Wahoo Trail simply looks beefed up for mountain biking. The 4 big visual shifts are:

  • Proper knobby mountain bike tire. Now the bike gets spec’d with 2.2″ Kenda Amrak knobbies. But there’s apparently room for up to 2.4″ tires if your grom wants to go bigger down the trail.
  • Real disc brakes. The new bike gets short-reach Tektro hydraulic disc brakes sized for small hands & 160mm rotors.
  • More aggressive frame shaping. A dropped toptube and seattube strut mean more standover clearance. But it also helps build in space for internal dropper post routing, if you want to swap in a 31.6 dropper in the future.
  • Lastly, a carbon fork. Bigger tires, disc brakes, and a burly frame inevitably mean more weight. So, Trek gave the Wahoo Trail a carbon fork with its own integrated fender to keep weight in check. Complete bike weight is still a bit more than 1kg heavier than the old rim brake 1.95″-tired version.
Trek Wahoo Trail lightweight alloy kids bike hybrid mountain bike, new geometry

Less obvious, but Trek’s new Alpha Silver Aluminum Wahoo Trail gets a geometry upgrade with a much slacker 67° head angle, longer chainstays & more BB drop. It’s definitely a more MTB-oriented bike now with about 2cm longer Reach and lower Stack and longer wheelbase overall to complement the bigger tires.

Trek Wahoo Trail lightweight alloy kids bike hybrid mountain bike, microshift advent 1x 9-speed

The Wahoo Trail build also upgrades to a MicroShift Advent 1x 9-speed drivetrain with a wider gear spread and a kid-friendly trigger shifter. It gets post mount brakes, a 68mm threaded BB, bolt-on QR axles, a replaceable derailleur hanger, and a kickstand.

The new Wahoo Trail comes in two sizes with either 20″ or 24″ wheels, but otherwise the same spec. Both come in 2 colors – Plasma Grey Pearl or Power Surge green – each with bling oil slick alloy rims.

The Trek Wahoo Trail 24 sells for $700 / 750€ (claimed weight 10.7kg/23.59lb).

While the smaller Trek Wahoo Trail 20 costs a bit less at 730€. No word yet on US pricing & availability for the smaller wheeled bike. Trek has now updated us, saying the 20″ bike will be coming stateside in Spring 2024.

Woom is one of the more recognizable kids’ bike manufacturers. The company has always gone above and beyond to make bikes that kids enjoy and last longer than one season. These aren’t super-suspension, mini-gravel bikes to match their parents — these are bikes that kids like to ride and can ride with ease.

Woom’s second gen OFF and suspension fork equipped OFF Air are examples of why. The OFF started as a light XC kid’s bike but morphed into a jack of all trades with the addition of a full carbon rigid fork. The new version of the Woom OFF and OFF Air boast a weight reduction (21lbs for OFF 5), easier-to-grip handlebars, dropper post compatibility, a kids-specific saddle, and more.

Meet the new Woom OFF and OFF Air.

The Woom OFF and OFF Air kids bike line is designed for kids/parents into off-road riding with the option of exploration. The main difference between the two; Woom OFF comes with a rigid fork (carbon), and the Woom OFF Air comes with a suspension fork. The OFF/OFF Air will fit riders aged 6 to 14, with 20″, 24″, or 26″ wheels and nearly all the trappings of an adult bike.

Woom OFF 5 saddle

Woom OFF and OFF Air— What’s new?

The second generation of the Woom OFF and Woom OFF AIR mountain bikes see many minor tweaks to offer a better riding experience. Starting from the touch points, the grips and saddles are kid-sized with inventive sizing to help aid comfortable riding.

The updated small grips mean a 19mm clamping zone for easier gripping for small hands. For the saddles, each Woom OFF (and others) now arrive with saddle sizes based on the bike size. The smallest Woom OFF 4 comes with a more narrow saddle than the Woom OFF 6, making for more comfortable riding in the long run.

The Woom Kid’s saddles come in three sizes and will be available for after-market purchase if you want to update your kiddo’s ride.

The brakes are also updated, increasing rotor size (F160 and R140mm) and enabling more braking power. The frame stays relatively unchanged, with a new chain guard to keep the paintwork pristine for as long as possible.

Rocket Ron Tire

With this second generation of the Woom OFF and OFF Air, customers now have the option to make changes to the bikes to suit them. The Woom OFF and Woom OFF AIR can be a tubeless tire system in all three sizes — choose the option at check out, or buy some 25mm tubeless tape and do it yourself.

Woom OFF 5 dropper

And the 24′′ and 26′′ versions are dropper post compatible — in case your little one is ready to send it!

Woom Orange

New Color Options

Woom has mostly been a solid color bike company, and its mountain bikes are usually in a matte black paint job. It’s utilitarian, but variety and the new color option Terra Coppa is excellent.

Woom OFF Orange

Why an orang-ish copper color for MTB? We’ll let Woom’s Product manager Lisa Ribarich explain: “The matte copper color makes the link between mountain biking and nature in a big way. The name’ terra coppa’ definitely helps create that connection by bringing in the Latin word for earth (terra). And you can’t help but think of terracotta, a warm and earthy shade, when you hear it.”

Woom Crank

Carefully Chosen Parts — Woom OFF and OFF Air Specs

Another way to make a bike great for kids is to choose a spec that will last and work with kids learning to shift. Wooms’ design team carefully chose every part for the OFF and OFF Air. It’s not as simple as “get the smallest crank arms and big cassette.” It’s about gear ratios and leverage.

Woom chain stay guard

For the drive train of the Woom OFF 5, Woom specs a 28T front ring with short 130mm cranks; This spec enables easy and highly frequent pedaling. Combined with the 34T cassette, there are enough gears for a good uphill/downhill.

The SRAM 9-speed setup is proven to take lots (tons) of abuse and is easy enough to find a replacement part for if it goes the wayside.

Woom Off Air Fork

For the OFF Air, Woom choose the new RST Rel B fork. This fork is an updated RST model F1rst, with a redesigned lower leg and improvements on the dampening side.

Tires are another point where Woom maximizes its footprint. The Woom OFF comes in three advancing sizes (4, 5, and 6), all of which take different wheel sizes but max out at 2.35″ wide — right on the money for XC and some exploration.

Woom BB

Woom OFF and OFF/Air Geometry

The Woom OFF and OFF/Air has a uniquely dropped bottom bracket and an easy-to-maneuver geometry; a 69° head tube and a 70° seat tube. The sporty geometry with a long wheelbase helps with descending and confidence.

The deep-drawn kink in the top tube provides additional safety, allowing the rider to get off quickly.

If you own a recent woom Original kid’s bike, you’re going to want to check out the latest recall. Don’t panic though – the recall only includes models with a very specific stem, and the company is making it super easy to find out if your bike is impacted.

The recall window includes all woom Original models sold from 2018-2021 in sizes 1, 1 PLUS, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. However, only woom models with a single bolt stem and a silver bolt like that above are affected. If the bolts are not tightened to 10Nm with a torque wrench, there is a risk of the handlebar and stem detaching from the bike.

In the same time frame, bikes were sold with stems with a single black bolt, or two silver bolts. Neither of these stems are included in the recall.

To make it even easier to identify, woom has added a stem identification survey on their website. Simply click on the link, and compare the pictures to the stem on your child’s bike. If it is one of the affected models, then woom will send you a stem maintenance kit.

What’s in the Stem Maintenance Kit? It’s simply a torque wrench, a packet of assembly paste (5 g), a 5 mm hex key, and instructions. So even if your stem is one of the affected models, it seems like simply cleaning the steerer, adding assembly paste, and properly torquing the bolt will ensure its safety without replacing any of the parts. Just another example of why you should always properly torque your bolts!

new 2023 Specialized P Series lineup

It seems that no matter what tire size you need, the new Specialized P.Series bikes have you covered. From 20″ for the groms, to 27.5″ for the (taller) grown-ups, the P.Series continues their ‘ruthless progression’ for your dirt jump or pump track sessions.

More than just new wheel sizes, the new P.Series frames include new features as well. At the back end of the bike, you’ll find new Boost 148 x 12mm hub spacing to allow for stronger wheel builds. Those Boost hubs are held in place by a new sliding dropout system that is compatible with both single-speed and geared drivetrains. Each frame will include an optional derailleur hanger so you can throw on a drivetrain of your choice to help you get to your favorite zone a little bit easier.

Specialized P Series seat stay junction

Along those lines, the frames are also now dropper post compatible if you want to be able to actually sit and pedal while still dropping the saddle when it’s time.

Specialized P Series bottom bracket

Elsewhere the frame is built with durability in mind including a threaded bottom bracket, and tapered head tube to run rigid or suspension forks.

Specialized P.Series Models

Specialized P.1 20″

Starting with the 20″ wheeled P.1, this bike features an A1 Premium alloy frame with a rigid A1 alloy fork that is suspension corrected to 80mm of travel. You’ll also find 19mm OD handlebars with smaller grips plus short-reach brake levers for smaller riders. All of the bikes including the P.1 use the new Specialized Kicker dirt jump tire with a low profile, fast-rolling tread. In the U.S., the P.1 will sell for $650.

Specialized P.2 24″

The P.2 moves to 24″ wheels, but is still geared towards younger riders with a Manitou JUnit suspension fork with 100mm of travel and a DJ specific tune. Sold in single-speed configuration for $1,250, the P.2 comes in the two colors shown above.

Specialized P.3 26″

Fans of the original 26″ wheeled P.Series bikes will want to check out the P.3. Also built with an aluminum frame, the P.3 is designed around a 100mm travel Marzocchi Bomber DJ 26″ fork and matching 26″ wheels with Specialized Kicker DJ tires. Note that the P.2, P.3, and P.4 all include single-speed-specific hubs, so if you want to run gears you’ll have to swap out the hub or rear wheel. The complete P.3 will sell for $2,000, but it will also be available as a frame-only for $700.

Specialized P.4 27.5″

Finally, for those wanting the ride of the P.3 but with bigger wheels, the new P.4 upsizes to 27.5″ wheels and tires. It also gets a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 fork with 100mm of travel, an aluminum frame, and single-speed drivetrain. The price is slightly higher at $2,100, but the frame is also available for $700.

Geometry

Specialized P.series geometry 2023

There are four different bikes with four different geometries for the P.Series. Specialized states that while both the P.3 and P.4 frames will fit both 26 and 27.5″ wheels and tires, there are differences in geometry, and changing the wheel size will have an effect on the bottom bracket height.
