FLO Cycling Air Gauge Makes Any Pump Highly Accurate

If your existing floor pump’s gauge has crapped out (it happens), you use an air compressor, or you just don’t trust the promoter’s pump at your local ‘cross race, the FLO Air Gauge is you’re solution.

It’s pricey at $199, but the custom US-made Ashcroft gauge promises a 1% accuracy across its 120psi span for a maximum discrepancy of +/-1.2psi. That’s the “percent of span” accuracy, which means no matter where on the pump it is, that’s a span of just 2.4psi.

They say most high-end pumps are +/-3%, and some cheap ones are as bad as +/-9%.

They also claim that a 1psi difference in pressure means 1-watt change in rolling resistance. Which begs the question, what’s accurate pressure worth…$200?

But wait, there’s more!

It attaches to any pump that fits a Presta valve, including handheld mini pumps. The press-on chuck has a locking knob, twist it to tighten a rubber seal inside the chuck around the Presta valve. This keeps it from slipping off, and prevents air from escaping as you get into higher pressures. When done inflating, simply loosen the knob and pull it off. The chuck’s design lets you grip it like a pistol and remove it quickly so there’s no air loss from the tire during removal.

Need to bleed air after overinflating? Remove your pump and you’ll notice it attaches on a Presta valve, too. Simply twist the valve core slightly open and tap it to release tiny bits of air until you reach the desired pressure.

The hoses are rated to 300psi and held in place by standard hose clamps, so both pieces and the clamps are easily replaceable. They also sell replaceable chucks and presta valve ends. Check their video for a closer look at the details.

$4 – 1/4″ NPT Tee
$5 – 1/4″ NPT barb connectors w/ hose clamps
$1 – PTFE tape
$15 – 25′ high pressure hose
$15 – 1% accuracy gas pressure guage
$150 – Really expensive CNC presta chuck

Still cheaper and looks just as professional

You’re getting hosed on PTFE tape. It’s $0.93 at Walmart

Topeak Smart Gauge is currently less than $33. It’s a digital gauge reads to the pound and has bleed capability. Also works with Schrader valves for your fork, shock and car.

With any gauge, the resolution and the accuracy may not be the same thing. A lot of cheap digital gauges will read to 0.1 pounds but the actual accuracy — if you can find a specification — is nowhere close to that.

Yes, this is true. What the gauge shows often means very little.

Does any of this actually matter? People act like they’re setting the tire pressure on a space craft or an F1 car when in fact they’re setting pressures for a Men’s 3/4 crit with beef jerky primes.

$199?!? Looks like it wouldn’t last a month in a busy bike shop.

All FLO Air Gauges ship with a 5 year warranty. If it broke in a month it would be replaced. The pasta were designed to last. The Ashcroft gauge is one of the best in the industry.

No Oettinger clamps, just crummy old hose clamps ? Silca offered an Ultimate guage for $249, I think I’d perfer that.

We chose hose clamp for quick and easy field replacements. While I agree there are more elegant options they are not as serviceable.

It’s attached to an inflated tube and reads “0.” Not exactly confidence-inspiring.

These were marketing shots. The tube was deflated. Good catch though.

PSI!? Are we back to the dark ages?

It would be nice if it did the shock pump as well. Maybe it does. Maybe I miss that part

I’ll keep my Silca pumps which are quite accurate and my Silca tire gauge which is purely awesome.
