It was pretty cool accidentally running into Zach Lambert, the founder of Blackheart Bike Co. at the food court (if you can even call it that) at this year’s Sea Otter Classic. I was walking by and complimented the Blackheart bike that he was holding (I’ve been following Blackheart’s Instagram for a while) and he introduced himself to me and told me about his new modern titanium road model.

So, I met him back at his booth and took some photos.

Blackheart Bikes has made it its mission to “support individuals working to make cycling a more welcoming and inclusive sport”. I can get 100% behind that.

Zach told me that this new model is all about standing on its own as a truly modern road bike. He didn’t want to simply add to or make a slightly different iteration of an allroad bike that already exists.

He wanted to create a bike that didn’t just recall a classic road bike design, instead, he wanted it to embrace the fully modern road bike in both look and feel.

The Ti frame is made of 3/2.5 titanium tubing with a double-butted seat tube. I have to say the bike looks fast just sitting there. It’s got a subtle Kamm tail downtube and a one-piece carbon cockpit with not a cable in sight.

Zach says the ride is smooth and snappy. It has slippery lines and light understated branding, something that Zach says will be the new branding aesthetic going forward.

Checkout the updated geometry on .com. Also know our sizing runs a bit different than is typical. I.e. Our 56 is equivalent to a sloping carbon 54. Zach

Reality such as price is irrelevant. Only virtue signalling matters… just like the author of this article did.

We support individuals doing the work through our ambassador program. If you know of people you think would be a great addition to our team in your area, let us know! Zach

Totally get it. We do our best to offer good value within each category. Although we can’t compete with big volume race-to-the-bottom brands, we offer our Allroad AL aluminum at a price that is more accessible. Let us know if you’d like an aluminum version of the road bike as well. Zach

He said ,“support individuals working to make cycling a more welcoming and inclusive sport”. Not to be negative, but what I see is the complete opposite. Not to be a wiseguy, but Walmart is the most inclusive. You can get the cheapest thing with 2 wheels. Sure, the quality is what it is. This Ti bike is beautiful, though.

Walmart and bikes has zero to do with “inclusivity”. Some of their bikes aren’t even repairable because they used weird “standards”. We won’t talk about the one cantilever, one disc brake bikes…

We see inclusivity and accessibility as two different things. We’re working to make the sport more welcoming and inclusive through our ambassador program, and doing our best to offer lower priced options as we grow. Zach

I don’t really see anything interesting or new about this besides the 2010s graphics update. Those minimally UDH dropouts won’t work with T-Type road when it comes next year so what’s the point?

Zach’s a cool guy but this bike is as average as you get.

Hey Roger, thanks for the feedback. This bike is very different than our original Allroad design and few companies are executing something like this in titanium currently. Take another look and shoot over an email if you have any suggestions to make it better. Zach
